TÓM TẮT/SYNOPSIS:
Tại một ngôi làng hẻo lánh nằm sâu trong rừng ở Nepal, Pirati đứng đầu một gia đình gồm những phụ nữ thuộc cộng đồng Kinnar – cộng đồng giới thứ ba lâu đời, vừa được kính trọng, vừa bị e sợ bởi niềm tin rằng họ có thể ban phúc hoặc giáng họa. Khi những đàn voi hoang xuất hiện trong đêm, dân làng phải tuần tra để bảo vệ nhà cửa và mùa màng; gia đình Kinnar của Pirati cũng cử một thành viên tham gia mỗi đêm.
Pirati mong được rời đi cùng người đàn ông chơi trống mà cô yêu, bất chấp lời thề sống độc thân của cộng đồng. Nhưng khi một người con gái của cô mất tích trong một buổi tuần tra và cảnh sát tỏ ra thờ ơ, Pirati buộc phải tự điều tra. In a remote Nepalese village nestled deep in the forest, Pirati leads a house of Kinnar women, an ancient third-gender community both revered and feared for their believed power to bless or curse. As wild elephants roam the darkness, the villagers are forced to conduct nightly patrols to protect their crops and homes, with Pirati’s Kinnar family volunteering one member each night.
Pirati dreams of escaping with the mustachioed Drum Master she loves, against the sacred vows of celibacy of her community. But when one of her daughters disappears during a nightly patrol, and she’s met with cold indifference by police, Pirati is left with no choice but to investigate the disappearance herself. As the mystery unravels, Pirati stirs up dangerous tensions that threaten to sever the ties she has forged with her family, forcing her to choose between love and her beloved community…

Abinash Bikram Shah là nhà biên kịch và đạo diễn người Nepal, từng tham gia các chương trình của Sundance Institute, Berlinale Talents, GMM – Film Independent và Locarno Filmmakers Academy. Ông đồng biên kịch The Black Hen (được giới thiệu tại Venice Critics’ Week) và Shambhala (tranh giải tại Liên hoan phim Berlin năm 2024); cả hai phim đều được Nepal gửi dự giải Oscar. Sau khi phim ngắn đầu tay Tattini tham dự các liên hoan phim quốc tế, ông trở thành đạo diễn Nepal đầu tiên có phim thuộc chương trình tuyển chọn chính thức của Liên hoan phim Cannes vào năm 2022 với Lori, tác phẩm nhận giải Đề cập đặc biệt của Ban giám khảo. Elephants in the Fog (2026), phim truyện dài đầu tay do ông đạo diễn, được chọn tham dự hạng mục Un Certain Regard tại Cannes.
Abinash Bikram Shah is a Nepalese writer and director, alumnus of the Sundance Institute, Berlinale Talents, GMM – Film Independent, and Locarno Filmmakers Academy. He co-wrote The Black Hen (Venice Critics’ Week) and Shambhala (Berlin Competition 2024), both Nepal’s Oscar entries. After his debut short Tattini reached international festivals, he became the first Nepali director in an official selection at Cannes in 2022 with Lori, which received a Jury Special Mention. His feature film Elephants in the Fog (2026) was selected for Cannes Un Certain Regard.
