Synopsis:
When the US attacks Vietnam and destroys its cities, a young girl from Hanoi who has lost her family in the bombardment embarks on a journey in search of her soldier father.
The Little Girl of Ha Noi carries significant historical values, especially toward the city of Hanoi. Notably, it was filmed among the rubbles of Kham Thien street, which was almost completely destroyed after twelve nights of relentless attacks from American B52 bombers as part of Operation Linebacker II, on December 1972.
Awards:
One of 5 films awarded the Ho Chi Minh Award for Literature and Arts (2007). At the 3rd Vietnam Film Festival (1975), the film won the following awards: Golden Lotus for Best Feature Film; Best Cinematography; Best Art Design; Best Actress.
Director’s biography:
Director, People’s Artist Hai Ninh was born in 1931 in Hoang Hoa, Thanh Hoa. He was the Director of Vietnam Feature Film Studio from 1984 to 1994. Starting his career in 1956, he was part of the first generation of students at the Vietnam Cinema School and was one of the pioneers who laid the foundation for Vietnamese Cinema.
During his filmmaking career, People’s Artist Hai Ninh left an unforgettable mark in the history of Vietnamese cinema with works such as Young Soldier (1964), Miss Tham Forest (1967), 17th Parallel – Days and Nights (1972), The Little Girl of Ha Noi (1974), The City at Dawn (1975), The First Love (1977), Motherland (1980), The Coast of Human Life (1983), Long Tri Festival Night (1989) and its sequel Ephemeral Fate (1990).
