Synopsis:
The Musician at the Dragon Citadel, produced for the 1000th year anniversary festival of the city of Thang Long-Hanoi, set in the period of late XVIII – early XIX century. The story revolves around the glamourous love story between To Nhu (written name of the great poet Nguyen Du) and Cam, a beautiful singer famous across the city of Thang Long, spanning from adolescence to middle-age.
The love story is intertwined with a hisorical period of great upheaval within Thang Long itself, the changing of feudal dynasties in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Awards:
One of three films awarded the National Award for Literature and Arts (2017). At the 17th Vietnam Film Festival (2011), the film was awarded: Certificate of Merit from the Jury; Best Art Design; Best Actor. At the Vietnam Cinema Association Awards (2010), the film won the following awards: Golden Kite for Best Feature Film; Best Screenwriter; Best Art Design. Notably, at the 1st Vietnam International Film Festival – 2010 (VINIFF I), Actress Nhat Kim Anh in the role of Cam won the Best Actress award.
Director’s biography:
Director and People’s Artist Dao Ba Son was born in 1952. He graduated from the Acting Department, Class 2, at Hanoi Academy of Theater and Cinema in 1977, and also completed several short-term training programs in screenwriting and directing documentary films. He also taught at many universities for multiple years.
