Synopsis:
Dear Mom tells the story of Song, a 11 year-old Hmong girl who has been trying to come to term with her mother’s absence in the last six years, while growing up in the Northwestern mountains. Presenting as a letter written by Song, the film offers a look into the emotional hardships as well as the social challenges that children who come across such unfortunate circumstances endure yet still are managing to overcome.
Director’s biography:
Director Ha Le Diem born in 1991, graduated from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication at the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University. Her debut film Children of the Mist premiered at the 2021 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, where Hà Lệ Diễm won the Best Director award. The film was invited to 150 events and won 36 domestic and international awards. It was also shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 95th Academy Awards. At the First Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF), the film was given the highest award – Best Asian Film. At the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival, the film won two Golden Lotus awards for “Best Documentary” and “Best Documentary Director.”
