Synopsis:
Over the past eight years, a retired worker transformed herself into a female virtues guru, and she has influenced thousands of women in China. Why is the training of women’s morality so popular in the Age of Feminism and Gender Equality? This documentary explores long-standing societal ideas around women, marriage and family that reflect traditions and expectations not only in China, but also around the world.
Director’s biography:
Lam Can-zhao was born in 1994 in southern China. His films focus on exploring the human condition, as well as bringing authentic and underrepresented voices to the forefront. His directorial debut was The Dog, a low-budget independent film that brought this young director into the spotlight at the age of 20. In 2018, his second film, Animal World, premiered at the 29th Carthage Film Festival and won Best Asian Film at the Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival in the Philippines.
