Synopsis:
The film follows the story of a girl named An. While sending goodbyes to the soldiers on the way to the front, she picks up a letter belongs to a soldier named Thai. Finding the address, she delivers the letter the his single mother. The orphaned An quickly form a bond with the mother, who encourages her to write letters to her son. From there, An develops a spark of love for the active soldier.
Awards:
National Award for Literature and Arts (2017). At the 8th Vietnam Film Festival, the film won the following awards (1988): Golden Lotus for Best Feature Film; Best Director; Best Screenwriter; Best Cinematography; Best Music.
Director’s biography:
Director, Merited Artist Nguyen Xuan Son was born in 1938. He joined the army in 1954, then transfered to the Vietnam Film Studio in 1960. He studied at the Vietnam Film School in 1965. In his filmmaking career, director Nguyen Xuan Son notable works included The Remaining Distance (1981), Mistake (1983), A Person Went to Seek for a Land (1984), Fairy tales for the age of 17 (1985); along with hundreds of television episodes for Vietnam National Television (VTV). In addition to making films, Nguyen Xuan Son also taught at the Hanoi Academy of Theater and Cinema for 38 years.
