5 Hà Nội International Film Festivals - a development process.

From the first day until now, the Hanoi International Film Festival has positioned the image of a young but increasingly professional, prestigious film festival, spreading widely with other countries in the world. At the press conference held on the afternoon of August 23rd, 2018 Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien – Deputy Head of the Steering Committee of the Festival hopes: "The brand of the Hanoi International Film Festival will fly far and appear on the map of the world. "

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien - Deputy Director of the Festival's Steering Committee stated at the Press Conference.

It can be seen right from the logo - the symbol of the Hanoi International Film Festival is the image of the crane egret. This symbol on the surface of Dong Son bronze drum is a symbol of Au Lac country from the Hung King era, expressing the eternity of the Vietnamese people, symbolizing the spirit and culture of Vietnam. With the implication of ethnicity as well as the development and integration of Vietnamese cinema, the Organizing Committee took the image of the crane egret as a symbol of the Hanoi International Film Festival and this image has become familiar to audiences.
The sustainability and development of the Hanoi International Film Festival is not only reflected in the logo but also in quality of the content.
Up to now, the organization and quality of each film festival as well as the films submitted to the competition have increased significantly. In the first festival: 22 countries attended and 59 films screened. Now, the fourth festival has attracted 43 countries and territories and 146 films.

This year, the organizers have received more than 500 feature films, short films in documentaries, science and animation from nearly 50 countries and territories in the world such as Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Poland, Russia, France, Italy, USA, Australia, Canada...
We will select the quality films to contest and present in the festival till August 31st. The increase in the number and quality of films through the film festivals is the clearest evidence for the development and prestige of this cinema event.

Shoplifters by Japanese Director Hirokazu Koreeda won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2018 will be present at the V Ha Noi International Festival.

Director of the Cinema Department, Ms Ngo Phuong Lan said: "This year, the organizers are very proud to have many of the world's top films being sent to the festival. In 2012, we just dreamed of winning Palme d'Or or Oscar award films being presented in Vietnam. But, this year, in nearly 400 feature films from the world's cinemas, the number of winning films is quite high, such as: The Japanese film Shoplifters won the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, A Fantatic Women (Chile) won the 2018 Oscar award for Best Foreign Film, or Taste of Cherry (Iran) won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival 1997 ".

To encourage Vietnamese filmmakers

A new point of this year's festival is that the Organizing Committee will choose more Vietnamese films to attend programs and categories of the festival.
The New film program of Vietnamese cinema introduces the typical feature films, diverse in style and theme since the Fourth International Film Festival (from November 2016 to now).
In addition, feature films in the Vietnam feature film program will have the chance to be voted as "Most Favorite feature film"... The Organizing Committee has selected new feature films produced by Vietnam Cinema to present to the audience in the festival. These are some of the most memorable films in recent years, be loved and supported by audiences. Besides, there are 2 collections of Vietnam documentary, scientific and animated films.

One thing that the festival’s Organizing Committee’s always worry about is that there is no Vietnamese films ordered by the State for 3 years. However, Director of the festival, Ms Ngo Phuong Lan said "Although there is no state order films to attend but the Organizing Committee will select other quality films, recognized by the audiences to participate in this festival. In addition, we try to create a fair playing field for private studios when participating in the festival in order to motivate them to make more art films rather than just entertainment films.”

Hanoi International Film Festival - a brand of the capital
Representing the host city, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong said: "The festival is a chance to introduce the images of Hanoi to friends and tourists all over the world. Hanoi considers this a cultural event and branding for Hanoi. At the same time, the festival is a destination, an attractive tourist product of Hanoi in many other tourist products. "
Therefore, up to this time all preparations for the festival: facilities, renovation of streets, landscapes ... are urged and ready. The director of the Department of Culture and Sports also added: "Hanoi considers the festival as an event that needs to be propagated and committed to the Organizing Committee that the event will take placein the best way."
