Haniff 2016’s closing ceremony: Vietnam won 4 awards

The 2016 Hanoi International Film Festival’s closing ceremony ended with the Jury special Award for length feature film for Yellow flowers on the green grass, director Victor Vu, Best young short-film director Award for Director Pham Ngoc Lan with the film Another city.

In addition, two other films of Vietnam: Jackpot (director Dustin Nguyen) and Taxi, What's your name? (Director Do Duc Thinh and Dinh Tuan Vu) won The Audience award for length feature film and Audience award for best Vietnamese film. Haniff  2016 has officially ended with a formal, warm, full of Hanoi’s characteristic Closing and Award ceremony at the  Vietnam-Soviet Cultural Friendship Palace at 20h00 last night. HANIFF lasted 5 days from November 1st to 5th with many diverse activities, attracting a large number of artists, film makers, audiences and the press in the country and internationally.
Attending the closing ceremony and award ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien - Member of the Party Central Committee - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr Bui The Duc - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda; Mr Vuong Duy Bien - People's Artist - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr Ngo Van Quý- Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee and Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan – General Director of Vietnam Cinema Department, Head of Festival Director, Head of the Organizing Committee of Haniff 2016.

The 4th Hanoi International Film Festival  is gradually developing, elevating, scaling and asserting its international prestige. If the first Haniff (2010) there are 59 films from 22 countries, the 2nd festival (2012) had 116 films, the 3rd (2014) with 132 films from more than 30 countries, then, the 4th Haniff (2016) has 146 films from 43 countries and territories. The films’s quality in all categories is much outstanding than the previous years. It was the speech at the awards ceremony by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, General Director of Vietnam Cinema Department.

She also stressed the new feature of Haniff 2016 is that for the first time, the Organizing Committee expanded the competition films in all categories: length feature and the short films to all cinemas in the world, instead of  just the Asia - Pacific as three years ago.

Therefore, there are 200 international delegates to attend this festival compared with more than 100 participants at the earlier festivals. Haniff  2016 is already an effective bridge between audiences and cinema when opening two awards: The Audience award for length feature film and Audience award for best Vietnamese film in the “New Vietnamese films”.
In addition to useful professional activities (Screening exchanges and outdoor fashion show, Haniff Campus, project market, exhibition: Vietnam Landscapes in foreign movies along with 2 Workshops on Film production cooperation among ASEAN member states and “Indian Cinema: Cooperation and Development” in the last 5 days, that was the source of extremely valuable power that Haniff 2016 has created. This strength helped the international film colleagues firmly believe in Haniff and Vietnam cinema and further believe in the country and people of Vietnam.

After 5 days in the real cinema atmosphere, the seriously work of members of the three juries, the highest award belongs to Canada with the film Remember, director Atom Egoyan. At Haniff 2016, Vietnam has won 4 awards. In addition, the remaining seven awards in other important categories have also been announced at the awards ceremony.
Besides the thrilling moment of the awards, Singer Kieu Anh, The Wings, singer and MC Ai Phuong, Korean boyban Offroad ... also presented at the closing night.

The 2016 HANIFF Awards:

Best young short-film director: Phạm Ngọc Lân (Another city)

Jury award for short film: Heart of the land (Director  Kaika Astikainen), Finland.

Best short film: Three Variation on Ofelia (Director:  Paulo Riqué), Mexico

NETPAC award: The green carriage (Director Oleg Asadulin), Russia.

Best main actor: Christopher Plummer (Remember), Canada

Best main actress: Hasmine Killip (film: Ordinary people), Philippines

Best feature- film director: Eduardo Roy Jr. (film: Ordinary people), Philippines

Audience award for length feature film: Jackpot (Director Dustin Nguyễn), Viet Nam

Audience award for best Vietnamese film in the “New Vietnamese films”: Film: Taxi, What’s your name? (Director Do Duc Thinh-Dinh Tuan Vu), Viet Nam
