The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had a meeting with the Hanoi People’s Committee on the preparations for the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VI) on the morning of June 13, Hanoi.
On behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, hosted the meeting, with the attendance of Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Cinema Department; Mr. Do Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Cinema Department; Ms. Ly Phuong Dung, Deputy Director of the Cinema Department; Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Cinema Department; and representatives of sections heads of the Cinema Department. Meanwhile, on behalf of the Hanoi People’s Committee, co-hosted the meeting is Mr. Chu Xuan Dung, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee; Mr. Do Dinh Hong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism; and representatives of leaders of the departments, boards,… of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.

Presenting the proposal for organizing the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Cinema Department, said that the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VI) honors outstanding cinematographic works that are rich in humanity and possess creative flair, encouraging new talents from the film industry. With the slogan “Cinema for Humanities, Adaptation, and Development”, this is a rather special film festival with the brand HANIFF. Film festivals around the world have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, such as postponement, cancellation, downscaling, and diversified organization, whereas the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival will be organized in adaptive, safe, and flexible conditions for epidemic prevention and control, taking action to develop the national film industry.
HANIFF VI, is under the patrol of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, organized by the Cinema Department and the Hanoi People’s Committee and held from November 8th to 12th, 2022, not only promotes cinematic works with creative flair, rich in humanity and encouraging new talents, but also attracts the attention of the public and creates motivation to develop Vietnam’s film industry. HANIFF VI will create opportunities to expand the Vietnamese film market around the world and integrate it into the international film market. The special significance of HANIFF VI is also contributing to promoting the beautiful and hospitable Vietnam through the image of  Hanoi, the capital of  City for Peace and UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network. Its role has been to promote the image of Vietnam in artistic creation in association with the vision of sustainable cultural and social development.
HANIFF VI will take place with a series of events such as the Competition category, which is expected to include 80 feature-length films and 35 short films; World Cinema Panorama; Country in Focus: Korean Cinema (on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea); Collection of contemporary Vietnamese films,… There will be two seminars scheduled to be held with the themes “Country in Focus: Korean Cinema” and “Producing, distributing, and disseminating films to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic”. The exhibition “Filming locations in Hanoi’s cultural heritage sites” is also an event that is expected to make a good impression on the regional and international delegates.
The Opening ceremony is expected to take place on the evening of November 8th, 2022, at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Culture Palace, while the premier film will be at the National Cinema Center (87 Lang Ha) . The Closing and Awards ceremony will be on November 12th, 2022. Within the scope of the Film Festival, there are also many interesting programs such as the Film Project Market, outdoor film screenings, exchanges with movie stars, film screening program for press and media agencies, Hanoi and Bac Ninh tourism program,…
Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong shared that the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival will continue to affirm the reputation of a large-scale cinema playground as a place to honor and introduce excellent films of Vietnamese and international cinema to national and international audiences. He affirmed that the 6th Hanoi International Film Festival is a great opportunity to promote the characteristics of Vietnamese culture, people, and cinema, with five past editions at its back. It is expected that the film festival will attract about 250 international delegates and about 700 Vietnamese delegates.The Deputy Minister proposed that the Hanoi People’s Committee and the city’s departments and boards cooperate closely with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to create a new and impressive film festival, leaving a deep impression on the delegates and the audiences.

Hanoi has many scenic spots and tourist activities that will bring exciting experiences to international delegates, such as historical vestiges, old streets, walking streets, craft villages, and traditional culture such as water puppets, love duets,… These are long-standing cultural traditions in the culture-rich city of Hanoi. Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong expressed that HANIFF VI will be a marvelous opportunity to promote tourism as tourist activities will be expanded at home and internationally after the 31st SEA Games, which is believed to have been very successful.
Mr. Chu Xuan Dung expressed that the Hanoi International Film Festival is not only an urgent short-term task but also an opportunity for Hanoi to continue promoting the development of the cultural industry in the capital. Hanoi is in the process of focusing on developing and positioning as the “Creative Cities Network”. HANIFF VI is expected to be an event affirming new creative values. Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that film quality is always the most important factor at any international film festival, and HANIFF VI has become a brand and destination for filmmakers and directors of famous cinematography in the world. The 6th Hanoi International Film Festival will continue to be a gathering place for awards-winning films of excellent artistic quality. More importantly, HANIFF VI introduces excellent cinematic works from international film industries, as well as a venue for professional discussions between actors and filmmakers from both domestic and international film industries.
