Attending the closing and awards ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - Head of the Steering Committee of the Film Festival; Mr. Ngo Van Quy - Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Ha Noi - Deputy Head of Steering Committee of the Film Festival; Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan - Director of Cinema Department - Head of the Organizing Committee of the Film Festival; representatives of the central departments, ministries, agencies and Hanoi; ambassadors, diplomatic representatives and international organizations in Hanoi; Vietnamese and international film artists and cinema activists, and moviegoers.

The 5th Hanoi International Film Festival was held in five days (from October 27 to October 31, 2018), with many activities.

The free movies screenings in four theaters: National Cinema Center, BHD, August and Kim Dong Cinema; outdoor screenings combining with exchange with artists in the city center is a chance for fans to enjoy hundreds of films at the festival.

In the category of Featured Length Film, "The Dark Room" (Iran) won the Best Featured Length Film award. Best director of Featured Length Film went to Piotr Domalewski with Silent Night (Poland).
The Best Actor Award went to Christian Bables (with the film Signal Rock - of the Philippines). And the good news for Vietnam is the Best Actress Award went to Phuong Anh Dao (film Summer in closed eyes). The film Pale Folks (Serbia) won the jury prize for length film.

In the Short Film category, Vietnam won two of the three awards. Nguyen Le Hoang Viet is one of Vietnam's talented young directors whose films have been featured in the short film category and won the Best Director Award for Short Film with Roomate.
