Taste of Cherry will attend Haniff 2018

Taste of Cherry is one of the Iranian cinematographic films selected by the Vietnam Cinema Department to be screened in the Collection of selective Iranian films program at the 2018 Hanoi International Film Festival.

Taste of cherry is very familiar to Iranian movie lovers but this is the first time the film is officially shown at a major film event of Vietnam: Haniff 2018.
Taste of Cherry, directed by Abbas Kiarostami won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1997 and Best Foreign Language Film Award of the US National Society of Film Critics in 1999.
This is an allegory about a man who wants to commit suicide, a simple yet strangely story and being told as simple as possible.

The film tells the story of Baddi - a middle-aged man with an emotionless face, driving an old car on the winding streets of Tehran’s suburb  to find a man to bury him.
This is the first time that Iranian cinema has won the highest award at a major international film festival and also started a new era for this small cinema.

Director Abbas Kiarostami, born in 1940 in Tehran, was a well-known international Iranian film director, film producer, screenwriter and photographer. He’s considered the leading bird of modern Iranian cinema, with a career spanning almost four decades. Kiarostami participated in more than forty films, including short films and documentaries.
Some of his best-known films include Koker Trilogy (1987-1990), Taste of Cherry (1997), The Wind Will Carry Us (1999), and Certified Copy (2010)-ordered film by French cinema."
In 2016, he died at the age of 76 due to cancer. Kiarostami is not only an Iranian filmmaker but also a pioneer in filmmaking and inspiring for a number of filmmakers around the world.

In addition to Taste of Cherry, there are two other films planned for non-commercial screenings in the collection of Iranian films: The Salesman and The White Balloon.

Haniff 2018 will take place from October 27nd to 31st 2018 in Hanoi. The opening ceremony and closing ceremony of the festival will be broadcast live on VTV - Vietnam Television.
